Learning to Surf in Just One Week in Tamraght ~ Novice’s Journey

Posted By : Souhail Adib/ 1576 0

Learning to surf in just one week seems too good to be true, right?

It is very possible with Original Surf Morocco.

Have you ever dreamed of gliding across the ocean, riding waves under the golden Moroccan sun, but thought it might be too difficult to learn?

You’re not alone. Many first-timers believe surfing takes years to master — but the truth is, with the right guidance, location, and vibe, you can catch your first real waves in just one week.

Welcome to Tamraght, a laid-back surf village on Morocco’s sunny Atlantic coast.

It’s here, at Original Surf Morocco, that countless beginners have transformed from nervous newcomers to confident surfers — all in seven unforgettable days.

Let’s walk you through what this journey looks like.

Learning to surf

Day 1 of Learning To Surf Journey: First Contact With the Ocean 🌊

Your surf journey starts on the golden sands of Tamraght beach. The morning sun warms your skin as your instructors greet you with big smiles and infectious energy.

Before touching the water, you’ll have a surf theory introduction — learning about waves, tides, safety signals, and the basics of board control.

Then comes the fun part: practicing pop-ups on the sand.

This dry-land training builds muscle memory so your body knows exactly what to do when you catch your first wave.

Practicing Pop up

When you finally wade into the water, the feeling is magical.

Your first waves will be in the whitewater (already broken waves).

You’ll practice paddling, balancing on your board, and maybe even standing for a second or two. It’s all about getting comfortable, not perfect — and laughing every time you fall.

Day 2–3 of Learning To Surf Journey: Building Confidence on the Board 🏄‍♀️

By the second day, something shifts. The nerves melt away and excitement takes over.

Each session begins with a warm-up and a review of what you learned the day before.

Your instructors give you personalized tips as you keep practicing your pop-ups and stance.

Learning to balance on the board

In these first few days, you’ll spend lots of time catching small whitewater waves, improving your paddling technique, and learning to position yourself on the board correctly.

You’ll fall often, but each wipeout teaches you something new.

You’ll also start to understand surf etiquette and ocean safety — knowing when to paddle, when to wait, and how to respect others in the lineup. These lessons build the foundation for real progress.

Day 4–5 of Learning To Surf Journey: Riding Your First Green Waves 🌊

This is where it gets exciting — you’re ready to move past the whitewater and try catching green waves (unbroken waves).

Your instructors will teach you how to read the ocean: spotting sets, understanding where waves break, and positioning yourself in the lineup.

You’ll learn the timing of when to paddle and pop up.

The first time you catch a green wave and ride it for a few seconds, you’ll feel pure magic.

Everyone cheers when a beginner gets their first long ride — it’s the kind of moment that stays with you forever.

By now, you’re not just trying to stand up — you’re surfing.

Day 6 of Learning To Surf Journey: Putting It All Together 🏄‍♂️

On day six, everything starts to click. Your pop-ups are smoother, your balance is stronger, and your paddling is faster.

You’ll spend longer time in the water and begin experimenting with basic turns and shifting your weight on the board.

You’re also starting to feel like part of the lineup — waiting for waves, choosing your moment, and riding with confidence.

Even if you don’t catch every wave, you feel at home out there.

Surfing starts to feel less like thinking and more like flowing.

Day 7 of Learning To Surf Journey: Surfing With Confidence 🌅

Your final day is a celebration.

By now, you can catch waves on your own, paddle out without fear, and ride with control. You’ve built real surf skills — and even more importantly, you’ve built confidence.

It’s incredible to look back and see how far you’ve come in just one week.

What started as something completely new now feels like a part of you.

Many beginners leave Tamraght already planning their next surf trip.
