New Year’s Eve in Moroccan Surf Camp – Experience Like No Other
New Year’s Eve in Moroccan surf camp sounds like a heck of a plan, especially when everybody wants to celebrate the end of the year with a bang.
Original Surf Morocco offers a big bang for the New Year’s celebration, a two-day event full of fun activities and Moroccan traditions for the New Year’s Eve.
In this post, you’ll find how our guests spent the last couple of days of 2024. It was a wonderful fusion of emotions, adventures, good laughs, and happy moments.
The First Day of New Year’s Eve in Moroccan Surf Camp
Breakfast with a Panoramic View

The morning began with a homemade Moroccan-style breakfast that included Moroccan mint tea, steamed milk, black coffee, and orange juice for drinks. Our primary staple is bread, and American pancakes were also served. Omelette, charcuterie, and salads were the main dishes alongside Amlou—our guests’ favorite, an almond paste made out of honey and Argan oil. Honey, jam, and cheese were presented as complementary.
The guests enjoyed breakfast at our beautiful panoramic terrace overlooking the whole of Tamraght village and left countless flattering comments for the chef.
After breakfast, the preparations begin, and during this time our surf camp feels like a beehive. Everyone gets so busy. From picking up personal wetsuits to filling up filtered water, strapping boards, and getting in the vans to head to where suitable waves are.
A Trip To Imsouane, A Magical Destination

After breakfast, we made the choice of visiting Imsouane.
Imsouane is an exotic, pristine fishing village located north of Taghazout that captures the essence of the local culture, laid-back atmosphere, friendly and down-to-earth locals, and pure love of the sea and its crashing waves. The small town is famous for its tiny harbor, fresh seafood, golden sunlight, and endless waves. It is a charming village where you lose the sense of time, and you feel the magical vibes of the place in the air. It’s the epitome of a surfer’s haven.
Beware once you go there, you may never want to come back. a few people never do.

A complete travel guide to Imsouane is in this blog where the authors capture the magical vibe that fuels the place.
Once we arrived at the town, we quickly unpacked our boards and got in our tight wetsuits, and jogged for 10 minutes as a warmup exercise. We had dogs as our jogging companions and the sounds of squawking seagulls as our morning run playlist!
After the warm-up and stretching, we practiced paddling out and balancing, then hit the waves.

The weather was perfect, the temperature was a solid 25 degrees Celsius, but the water was a bit chilly. The waves were good suitable for both beginners and intermediate surfers. Imsouane village is known for being the home of the longest waves in Morocco.
Lunch at a Local Fish Restaurant
When you have this much fun on the beach, hunger hits you harder than a 6-foot-tall crashing wave.
When you’re in an authentic fishing village, fish for lunch is the obvious and the best option. And we did it in style, we had lunch in a restaurant that overlooked the rocky shores of the town providing a breath-taking view of the port, where fishermen sail their boats on and off the bay in hopes of a full fishing creel. Some were sad with their catch while others were wearing the brightest smiles grateful for their fishing luck.

After lunch, we walked to a small coffee kiosk, we grabbed a few cups and explored the town barefoot but coffee at hand.

Celebrating The New Year’s Eve in Moroccan Surf Camp: From Waves To Sand Surfing
After exploring the charming streets of Imsouane, we set off on a joyful drive to Timlaline Dunes, a stunning oasis at Tamri where the desert meets the ocean in a breathtaking fusion of golden sands and turquoise waves.

This place looks out of One Thousand and One Nights. It’s a sight to behold. It’s where the desert meets the ocean. Amazing golden dunes with an even more amazing sunset. Before catching the sunset, we have other plans, not surfing waves but surfing those golden dunes. We sand-surfed, faceplanted a few times, and brushed the sand off our bodies.

Back To Tamraght Village

We changed to the our evening outfit and gathered around the dinner table for some succulent and delicious beef Cousous. After dinner, we were on the hunt for some street food. We ended our evening by munching on French crepes and sipping our dairies (Raib), while strolling down the corniche.
This was a wrap for how our first day at the New Year’s Eve in a Moroccan surf camp from the point of view of our guests.
The Second Day of New Year’s Eve in Moroccan Surf Camp

The next day, breakfast was as amazing as it was day before. We substituted the American pancakes with the Moroccan ones (we call them beghrir), the omelette with traditional homemade blend of eggs and tomato, and orange juice with avocado and cucumber juice.
Morning at The Souk
After breakfast. we went to one the biggest traditional market (souk) not only in Morocco but also in Africa. It’s the old blending with the new. Souvenirs, traditional garments, leather goods, you name you can find it here. Some bought souvenirs for their closed ones, others bought something for themselves, and the rest explored the charms of the souk.
Afternoon at The Beach
For the afternoon, we made way to Devil’s Rock Beach nearby our surf camp to surf and chill. The moment we got our feet in the sand some of our excited surfers ran for the attractive waves, while others chose to chill and played some laid-back volley ball but then everyone wanted to end the year surfing through the last sunset of the year.
When the sun began to dip in the ocean for the last time in 2024, we gathered around a bonfire, wrote our new year’s wishes or something we wanted to leave behind in small notes, and threw them in the fire while watching the embers ascending our desires to the crimson sky.

As it began to be filled with stars, we headed back to the surf camp for the big night.
Celebration of New Year’s Eve in Moroccan Surf Camp
With a body full of sand and hair full of salty waters, we hit the showers and changed to our night outfits. We gathered around the rooftop terrace and waited for dinner to be served.
The dinner was a feast, fish tagine was made, Soussy-style (Souss is the region where the city of Agadir is located), with those wonderful native-to-the-region spices while using organic regionally-grown vegetables.
After dinner, there was a band waiting for us in the terrace, Gnawa band to be exact. Gnawa is a Moroccan-native traditional genre of music that has deep roots in West Africa and Sub-Saharan countries. This folklore music is known for repeating a few lines over and over for a long period of time to create a sort of a trance atmosphere.
We let the music fills the air, joined in the band in the terrace, and danced the night away, we kept dancing till the sun light stated seeping through the fabric of the sky.
Seeing those few first sun rays, made us realize how tired we were but how fun we entered the new year, and we hoped that the feeling extended for the year around.
New Year’s Eve in our Moroccan surf camp is a tale of a couple of magical days that were etched in the memories of everyone’s around.
If you want to have similar experiences, head to our booking page now and select which package meets your need.
Even though the New Year is behind us, we are always on the lookout for the biggest waves to catch and we are organising incredible excursions all the time.

Chiara: A Special Surfer Girl
Chiara, nicknamed Chiaretta, is a charming Italian girl from Milan. Her WhatsApp status says she is probably at the airport. Her social media profile pictures show her in a wetsuit carrying a surfing board or riding a wave.
Chiaretta is not only a cute face but holds a bachelor’s degree in languages while pursuing a master’s in business management. She is immersing herself in Moroccan culture by interning at a language center in Rabat.

After a full day of sunbathing, catching waves, and having fun, we suggested conducting a laid-back discussion to discover what keeps her coming back for more.
For this surf camp review, we kept it light and asked Chiara 3 casual questions.
Below is a breakdown of how the talk went.
Surf Camp Review Breakdown
At first, we wanted to gain a complete perspective of the entire experience, so we began our surf camp review by asking her opinion about Tamraght village.
Question 1: What do you like about your trip here?
Chiara senses the homeliness Tamraght village provides for its visitors.
In Tamraght, locals coexist harmoniously with tourists from every part of the world. Moroccan culture here leans towards the Amazighi side. The village is between Awrir and Taghazout and borders some of the best surfing spots in Agadir, like Devil’s Rock, Crocro, and Banana Point.
Here you can find anything and everything. Surf schools, surf shops, hostels, convenience stores, restaurants that cater to different tastes, thrift shops, street food stalls, aesthetic cafes, and shops that sell all sorts of things from leather goods, to souvenirs, and everything in between.
The thing that excites most tourists coming to Tamaraght is the year-round sunshine, the perfect weather to catch some fantastic waves, and friendly and outgoing locals. In a nutshell, Tamarght is about riding the waves, enjoying a sunbath, discovering the local culture, and meeting new like-minded people.
In Chiara’s own words, come to Tamraght is all about the good vibes. As exceptional as Chiara is, she enjoys cool vibes as much as the next girl.

Chiara answered by enthusiastically stating, “Choose Original because it’s a nice place, there’s a lot of shops around. It’s near to the beach (which is the best thing). And if you want to learn how to surf, there are good instructors.”
At the end of the interview we asked her to say something in Moroccan and Chiaretta didn’t hesitate a second and said laughingly,”Yallah Ajiw Al Original” which directly translates to let’s go, come on, visit Original. Then, we suggested that she send a message to her countrymen in Italian and she basically invited them to Tamaraght for a good year-around sunshine, endless waves, wonderful culture, and warm people.

Morocco has gained popularity as a surfing destination due to its beautiful coastline and top-notch waves. This thorough guide will walk you through the crucial considerations to make when selecting a surf camp in Taghazout, Morocco that completely satisfies your needs and interests.
1. Location Matters: Proximity to the Waves
The location of the camp in respect to the surf spots should be taken into account first and foremost. You can easily access and spend more time in the water at a surf camp that is near the best waves. Instead of driving long hours searching for the best waves you’ll spend more time catching them when you are closer to them. Find surf camps that are well situated close to well-known surf spots including Anchor Point, Banana Point, Devil’s Rock, and Boilers.
2. Experienced and Knowledgeable Instructors
Your surfing experience can be considerably impacted by the level of experience of the instructors. Select a camp that offers qualified, experienced instructors that excel both as surfers and teachers. They need to be familiar with the local weather, tides, and wave patterns. Beginners will catch their first waves with the assistance of patient and knowledgeable teachers, while experienced surfers will improve their skills by taking them to the best, uncrowded wave of the day.
3. Comprehensive Lesson Plans

It’s a great find to find a surf camp that provides an organized training program for all skill levels. Whether you’re an experienced surfer trying to master advanced tricks or someone new eager to learn the fundamentals, a camp with a range of lesson plans catered to different levels is crucial. To speed up your progress, These plans should include land-based theory sessions either at the surf camp or on the beach, in-water practicals, video analysis, and feedback sessions to accelerate your progress.
4. Accommodation and Amenities
Your lodging plays a significant role in your overall experience. Choose a surf camp that provides comfortable accommodation options that cater to different budgets. Whether you’re seeking shared dorms, private rooms, or apartments. Additionally, on-site amenities such as healthy meals, relaxation areas, and equipment rental services can enhance your stay.
5. Camp Size and Vibe
Your experience may be impacted by the surf camp’s size and atmosphere. You can develop close relationships with both fellow surfers and instructors at smaller camps, which frequently provide a more individualized and cozy environment. Larger camps, however, could provide more amenities and a more active social scene. Think about the atmosphere that most suits your tastes for a satisfying experience.
6. Equipment Quality and Availability
High-quality surfboards and wetsuits are needed at the surf camp because surfing demands the right gear. To ensure a fun and safe experience in the water, pick a camp that keeps its equipment up to date and maintained on a regular basis. FAQ
Q1: How do I know if a surf camp is suitable for my skill level?
A1: Reputable surf camps often offer lessons for surfers of all skill levels, from absolute beginners to guides to experienced surfers. Ask about their teaching programs and whether they have options for different ability levels while looking into potential surf camps. This guarantees that the coaching and guidance you receive are appropriate for your current level of ability.
Q2: What should I consider when evaluating a surf camp’s location?
A2: The camp’s proximity to surf places is a key factor. To reduce travel time and increase your time in the water, look for surf camps that are strategically positioned close to well-known surf breaks. To improve your entire experience, take into account the accessibility of the services, restaurants, and cultural sites in the area.
Q3: Are all instructors at surf camps certified?
A3: Reputable surf camps typically employ certified instructors who possess both surfing expertise and teaching qualifications. Inquire about the instructors’ experience to ensure that you’re learning from knowledgeable coaches who prioritize safety and skill development.
Q4: What kind of accommodations can I expect at a surf camp?
A4: Accommodations vary among surf camps and can range from shared dormitories to private rooms or even apartments. Select lodgings that fit your preferences and budget. Additionally, inquire about amenities such as meals, relaxation areas, and equipment rental services that can contribute to a comfortable stay.
Q5: How do I decide between a smaller and larger surf camp?
A5: The choice between a smaller and larger camp depends on your preferences. Smaller camps often provide a more intimate and personalized experience, fostering close connections with instructors and fellow surfers. Larger camps may offer more facilities and a livelier social scene. Consider the atmosphere that resonates with your desired experience.
Q6: Is it necessary to bring my own surf equipment?
A6: While some surf camps offer equipment rental, it’s recommended to check with the camp beforehand. Quality equipment is essential for a safe and enjoyable surfing experience, so ensure that the camp provides well-maintained boards and wetsuits. During peak seasons, confirming equipment availability is especially important.
Q7: How can I immerse myself in the local culture during my surf trip?
A7: Look for surf camps that integrate cultural experiences into their offerings. This can include trying traditional Moroccan cuisine, exploring local markets, and participating in cultural excursions. Engaging with the local community adds depth to your surf vacation, allowing you to appreciate the destination beyond its waves.
Q8: Are there any age restrictions for joining a surf camp?
A8: Age restrictions vary among surf camps. Some camps cater exclusively to adults, while others welcome families with children. When considering a surf camp, inquire about their age policies to ensure that the camp aligns with the composition of your group.
Q9: What should I bring with me to a surf camp?
A9: Packing essentials include swimwear, sunscreen, a hat, flip-flops, and casual clothing for off-water activities. If you have your own surf equipment, consider bringing it along. Additionally, don’t forget to bring any necessary travel documents, such as passports and visas, if required for your trip.
Q10: How can I make the most of my surf camp experience in Morocco?
A10: To maximize your surf camp experience, come prepared with an open mindset and a willingness to learn. Engage with fellow surfers and instructors, ask questions, and take advantage of the diverse lessons and activities offered. Embrace the local culture, explore the surroundings, and most importantly, enjoy every moment in the waves.
